Rivers and Tides

This documentary is a tribute to Andy Goldsworthy and his work. This Scottish guy is a land artist, a photograph, a philosopher... He makes sculptures with wood, stones, leaves... and then watches them as they decay and eventually get destroyed.
There are some very nice photography books of his work, but watching and listening to him as he works on these art pieces is really enlightening.
Warmly recommended if it happens to show at your local non mainstream movie theater...

Hunger by Steve McQueen

If you need a movie to cheer you up, Hunger is not it! I just saw this last Sunday, a brilliant film on Bobby Sand's hunger strike in the early eighties. McQueen portraits the Maze, the prison where IRA captives were held, with almost no dialogue, but with loads of impressive and nauseating images. No need to take pop corn, you won't eat it.

Happy-Go-Lucky

A look at a few chapters in the life of Poppy, a cheery, colorful, North London schoolteacher whose optimism tends to exasperate those around her.

Not really super joyfull, but not too sad. Great images, actors and nice atmosphere hanging over the whole movie.
